PEMBANGUNAN SOSIOEKONOMI VETERAN ATM TIDAK BERPENCEN

The "Program Pembangunan Sosioekonomi Veteran Angkatan Tentera Malaysia Tidak Berpencen" (PPSEV-ATM-TBP) was officially launched by YB. Dato' Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid bin Hamidi, the Minister of Defence on Thursday, 13 September 2011 at Dewan Merdeka, Putra World Trade Centre, Kuala Lumpur.

This programme was as a result of the allocation of RM50 million for a special training programme to be introduced for the 175,000 military personnel who are not eligible for pension, to venture into business or to obtain jobs in the public or private sectors. This was announced by YAB. Prime Minister, in his capacity as Finance Minister, when tabling the 2012 Budget on 7 October 2011.

More than 3,000 Armed Forces personnel from the various states, who are not in receipt of pension filled the hall.

Unfortunately there were not that many officers who are not in receipt of pensions, were seen in the hall. The Deputy President and five Committee Members of RAFOC were present.

PERHEBAT, together with JHEV and various other government agencies, the private sector and NGOs, was tasked to formulate the programme. The strategy included:

  1. To upgrade existing entrepreneurs.
  2. To develop new entrepreneurs.
  3. To encourage the Armed Forces veterans without pensions to choose entrepreneurship as a career.
  4. To strengthen the market potential of trained veterans.
  5. To facilitate collaboration, promotion and publicity.
  6. To strengthen the research and development on the data base on veterans without pensions.
In his speech, the Defence Minister was full of sympathy for the Armed Forces veterans who are not in receipt of pension and indicated that something would be done to give them the due recognition in kind.

Details on the programme and its implementation are available from PERHEBAT. In the meantime, let us see if there is any "hand out" for the Armed Forces veterans who are not in receipt of pension in the 2013 Budget to be unveiled by YAB. Prime Minister, in his capacity as Finance Minister, on Friday, 28 September 2012.
