RAFOC notes with regrets the sudden passing of our National Hero, Datuk Temenggong Kanang anak Langkau (67; retired PW1; RRD; 1962-1986) at the General Hospital, Kuching this morning, Thursday 3 Jan 2012 at 01:45 hours.

Datuk Temenggong Kanang was awarded the gallantry awards of "Panglima Gagah Berani" (PGB) in 1980 and the "Seri Pahlawan Gagah Perkasa" (SP) in 1981 for his bravery whilst in Service - the only one to have received both gallantry awards. He was one of the three Armed Forces personnel to have received the SP; another five were awarded the "SP" posthumously. In 2011, he was awarded the "Panglima Gemilang Bintang Kenyalang" (PGBK), by TYT Yang DiPertua Negeri Sarawak, which carries the title "Datuk".

According to the statement by the Defence Minister, Datuk Temenggong Kanang will be given a national burial. A wake service will be held in the Civic Hall, Kuching on Friday, 4 Jan 2012. He will be interred at the Warriors' Cemetery, Jalan Budaya, Kuching on Sunday, 6 Jan 2013.
